I'm interested in a 99 SVT for sale locally.

It's an impeccably clean silver 99 SVT with 100,000km and the optional power sunroof and CD player. He's got a new set of tires and a Mustang Cobra R-style front lip.

The windshield is cracked, though, and the power door locks don't work.

He's asking $14,000 canadian, private sale. I checked book prices and it says the maximum for a private sale is around $12k. Is the seller's asking price fair?

Is there anything I should look out for like reliability issues? I'd appreciate any help on this,I'm a total noob when it comes to contours.

Book value on the CSVT seems to be a little low. I think the numbers are in the "ballpark" though from this point it all depends on how much you want it and how much they want to sell it. Recently, there was one for sale in the www.autotrader.ca for $14k and change I think...it might still be there.

I have owned a CSVT for almost 3 years now and have never been left with my thumb out. I am glad however that I purchased the extended warrantee as I recouped the cost and then some on warantee work.

Good luck with your purchase,

That doesn't sound too bad...an extended warranty would be nice: that would cover the door locks.

I have a 99 SVT, black, with 71,000 klicks, sunroof, CD, and new KDWs and if I were to sell (which I don't plan to do), I'd be looking for around 16K I think.

Where are you? Is the vendor known to the CEG? Maybe we could let you know whether the car has been well cared for...regardless, ask for maintenance records - and then talk to the place where he/she has had it serviced. That should give you a good idea whether it has a future.
