I have the most incredible and unfortunate story. Nothing to do with my car, but that's where the good news ends.
OK, I'll give some background. In March I discovered my wife had an affair. So, I spend the next however long trying to figure out what I'm gonna do. I decide that the marriage is irrevocably broken.
Lots of other stuff has happened since (nephew killed, mom in hospital for a month wth complications from colon cancer surgery last year - she's fine now).
Anyway, I start to put the divorce wheels in motion. Neither of us can afford to move out, so we're trying to be reasonable and live together. On Monday 7/28 at about 11:30 AM, we're arguing about the seperation papers at the apartment. It gets ugly, and a brawl ensues. I can't really comment on what happened (pending criminal case and all), but I assure you I'm not a wife beater.
Anyway, at 5 PM the cops pick me up (NEVER been arrested before). Sit in a holding cell at Conshy until 7. Fingerprints, mug shots, the whole nine yards. Then a detective comes to get me so I can be arraigned.
Waiting for the video feed to start, the detective gives me her statement. She told them I basically beat on her and she took the beating. Her story is complete BS, but they filed charges before even talking to me. Heck, no police has even taken a statement from me.
I see that I'm charged with the following crimes:
- Aggrivated Assault, a first degree felony
- Simple Assault, a 2nd degree misdemeanor
- Reckless Endangerment of Another Person, a 2nd degree misdemeanor
Bail is $15k, 10% cash. The detective (after hearing my side of the story) realized he was snowed and I was getting screwed, so he let me call mom. I tell her I'll call from Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
I get to County at 9:30 or so. Strip search, always a treat. Rot in another holding cell until 11:30. At 11, they stuck another guy in there with me. Friendly enough fella, serving weekends for Identity Theft.
Eventually, they take me up to a unit.
I got top bunk!!! Cellmate gets pissed every time there is a noise and he gets awoken. In the AM they serve breakfast. Let me tell you, the food there is not fit for human consumption. Phones get turned on at 7, so I try to make the call to mom. Won't go through. At 10 they sent the new guys to see the bail bondsman. He tells me that bail has been arranged (by mom) and just to wait down in my cell.
I get out at 11:30 AM. A condition of bail is that I cannot have ANY contact with the, ahem, [censored] or go back to the apartment for any reason. I have to call the Conshy Police to escort me over there, and I get the following items:
- TWO bags of clothes
- my laptop computer
- my cat
- and, um, a pipe that I stuck in my pocket when nobody was looking
Living at mom's for now. They eventually convinced the [censored] to drop the felony and the REAP, but the simple assault is still sticking. For now, the detective and my lawyer are gonna meet the [censored] in a week or two and see if they can convince the [censored] to drop the rest. The [censored] was unhappy that they didn't hold the felony on me.
Don't worry, I have a great lawyer, and my aunt has a sizeable sum of money stashed away and it has all been earmarked for my legal efforts. I also have some influental friends (that fell out of the sky on me) that will work their magic when their efforts are needed.
The [censored]'s day will come, and the [censored] is gonna be sorry the [censored] did what the [censored] did. No matter what, I'm making the [censored] get up on the stand and tell the [censored]'s lies if I'm getting in any trouble over this.
I just got my computer going today. I impressed myself with figuring out how to get Microsuck Internet Connetion Sharing (suckiest networking crap ever) to work with mom's as the host. I'm 2 classes short of a MS Comp Sci, and it took me over 6 hours to get it going right.
I have one piece of advice or every single person who reads this:
It's much easier to get married than it is to get unmarried again.
