He thinks he will smoke me at the track with his 96 maxima 5 speed. I have a 98 CSVT with bassani, intake. Do I have a chance. I also was challenged by a 2003 maxima GLE automatic.

i think the '96 has about 180 hp or so...so it will be a close race, but you should be able to take him.....

and the '03 auto isn't all that fast, but probably a little bit faster than you.....but a 6 speed on the other hand would kill you..

Torque (lb.-ft. @ rpm): 205 @ 4000
Transmission: 5-speed manual
EPA fuel economy, city/hwy: 22/27 mpg

Track, f/r: 59.8/59.1 in.
Turning circle: 34.8 ft.
Curb Weight: 3010

I have raced a 1996 Nissan Maxima SE with an automatic. I have a 1999 Stock SVT with somewhat high mileage. He got me pretty damn good in the end. Almost 2 cars. Has more displacement, less horsepower, but the kicker is that 205 lbs-ft of torque. That got him off the line pretty quickly. So with your exhaust and intake, you should be even, if not right behind him (GIVEN EQUAL DRIVERS>DRIVERS ARE 90% OF THE OUTCOME OF RACES)

2003 Nissan Maxima GLE Automatic

Quote:

Torque Feet Per Pound: 246

Turbo: N
Curb Weight (Automatic):3289

Even with the automatic, N/A & Stock, he's got you on power. I would have him give you something or you'll be behind him in the end. This is given equal drivers.

The above statements that are not in quotations are my OPINION based on experience with the 96 SE. The specs for the 2003 are enough to safely say, you won't be passing him on the track.

Dude Griffen i don't know, those heavy wheels hurt you too. It should be VERY close reguardless. Your taking this to Edgewater right?

The 96 Maxima should be the closest. The 03 Maxima's are pretty quick; defanately DON'T underestimate that even though it is an auto. I think they run into the 14's in the 1/4 with an auto!

I have not lost to a Maxima yet.

Though I have not raced a specific one since he did a lot more upgrades...

Even with that said you better nail every shift or you will have no chance of winning. They are quick cars with great engines!

Definitely one of the better 4-door sports sedans. (like us of course )

Yeah, nice cars but up until they made the 255HP ones, the SVT's could hang.

Hey, where are all those Maxima trolls that used to come on here and stir up trouble? I really miss those days when the CSVT was still in production and trolls would come around hatin'

They still hate, but beating the CSVT isn't on top of many car buyers lists these days if they even know what it is.

wow finally a subject i know quite a bit about. ive owned to older maxima's and then wanted another 4th gen maxima (95-99). depending what mods the 96 has it will be pretty much a drivers race. if he has a y-pipe and intake at the least in mods then he will pull on you with equal drivers. The y-pipe on a maxima does the same performance gains what MSDS headers does for our car. with some minor bolt ons intake, y-pipe, exhaust, the 5spd 4th gen maximas can run 14.9's. dont even bother with the 03 maxima auto or 6spd doesnt matter. the autos run mid 14s

The 2003 maxima will smoke me even though it is the GLE and not the SE, what are the differences between he two. Also I would be putting the stock wheels back on for the race. I dont think the 96 has anything done to it yet, he just got it.

for the 03 it doesnt matter if its gle or se the both have the same 255hp. GlE just comes with all the luxery options like leather and sunroof standard. since the 96 is stock you should be able to beat him. you said the 96 was a gxe so it is a little lighter...probably weighs a little more then 2900 lb
