Mandrel vs. Crush? It can be the difference between making your car a teensy tiny bit quicker (mandrel) and making it an eensy weensy teeny tiny bit quicker (crush).

Oh that's right... you don't do exhaust on an N/A 2.5L for sound... you do it for all that crazy horsepower! Mandrel-bent all the way. You're paying $100 per 1 horsepower, make sure you get it! Just don't forget to slap the manufacture's sticker on your decklid - forgeting the sticker is even worse than low-rent welds and bends. I'm kidding...

And, so no one thinks I'm trying to justify what I own or sell as some people do, my Cougar's exhaust is mandrel bent... in fact it only has one bend and then exits before the rear tire. Unfortunately, the car is still only marginally faster than dog$&!t.

Sorry if this offends anyone... I just can't share your enthusiasm for a 3 horsepower difference when I have a raging hangover at 6:30 AM.

Mandrel bends keep the same diamneter the entire time around every bend.

But Crush bends, there are little "accordian tube like" dents in the pipe that allow it to make bends. These dents reduce airflow dramatically in any exhaust situation.
