My SVT Contour is gone as well. I sold it to buy a Mini Cooper. I'm going Fordless for the first time in 17 years. It feels strange.

I've been feeling the same way. I start to notice things on my car that are just becoming agravating.

Like a squeak from the rear when I go over a bump. or the thump because the front bushings need greasing. Then there is the fact that one of my rims might be bent and I get a little vibration coming thru the steering wheel every now and then.

I want to keep my car, more importantly I want to mod it. But what sucks is I'm getting new car fever (working for the manufacturer (mazda) really sucks).

My SVT is a daily driver and thus has daily driver wear and tear (scuffs from shoprite and those little brats coming out of the mini-van, scratches, dents from hail, and then there is that damage to the front spoiler from that nerd valet parker did. My rear bumper has paint damage on it from some idiot on the parkway during rush hour traffic) I love my tour, but it will just cost too much to get her back to showroom and then start the mods.

What to do?

Personnally I'm thinking Mazda 3 hatchback (this is going to be the replacement to the current protege 5, or Mazda 6).

Looks like we are all getting rid of out tours. Kind of sad but the "contiques" aren't getting any younger. I gotta say when my car was new it was great. As time went on it started with little things and graduly made its way to bigger things. So I feel your pain.

I'm getting new car fever myself. My 1995 Mystique LS V6 5-speed has been 9 years of fun, don't want to think about how much money I've spent on repairs and mods, but even though it has "only" 76,000 miles, time and regular use (many winters in VT) are taking it's toll on the look, feel, and freshness of the car. To get it back "as new" is starting to compete with the value of the car.

I drove a Mazda 6s (v6 5-speed) yesterday and I'm sold. It's just the question of timing, seeing if I can find any interest in my old car and finding (2003 vs. 2004?) one I want. There's only one 6s 5-spd in VT and it's black - and I'm not interested in trying to keep a black car clean up here... been there, done that!

My Mystique has been in the shop for several days while they've been trying to fix the ABS/TC, which may never work again so while I was hoping to get one more winter out of my Mystique, it may be a treacherous one with the ice and snows in Vermont.

Yes, the Contique, out of production, will (sadly) become a dying breed, an interesting footnote in American automotive history, the performance car that "could have been" if the manufacturer knew how to build, price and market it... See my car's page, in my sig, for the long version of my ranting

I have a feeling the "no more 'tour" posts are soon going to start outnumbering the "just got a tour!" ones.

Well first off ... sorry to see all you guys have abandoned your Contours . I have NO plans on geting rid of MINE , that is unless my (new) mortgage gets too uncomfortable for us to handle . Right now , it's just sitting in my garage (man that feels good ) waiting for nice days to go for a drive ! It's almost ready to turn 23,000 miles very soon , so I'm planing on a late-season buff & wax to make him shine like glass once again . Hopefully I'll have it a long time . I wouldn't trade my Contour for 3 Sport Tracs !! Maybe for a MINI Cooper 'S' ...

It's a shame to see all you long-timers bailing out .
