I dont think it could be more than 4-5hp.

Also Dosent it shut off above a certain RPM(fan still blows but not cold). Thats the way it was on my Mustang.

It robs an obscene amount of power. It's one of the least efficient A/C units I've ever seen.

I wouldn't be surprised if it robbed 10-20 HP/TQ. Especially down low where we have little to spare.

Also yes it does shut off after ~2 seconds of WOT. Then as soon as you lift the A/C unit spikes on at high rpm levels. That's not very good for component longevity!!!

You are much better off to just turn the A/C off in the first place.

I could believe 20hp. Its a night and day difference with the a/c on.

This is funny... my buddy adam and I had a very long argument about this... he always insisted that the air condiditoning didn't do much as far as HP/TQ. However... he has a GS-R and you feel less of a loss with the air on, but I still insisted it was plenty of loss. So... the last dyno day, he dynoed a consistant 10HP/TQ across the board from 2K-8.2K. Pretty interesting, I wouldn't doubt a solid 15+HP loss on the duratec. Air conditioning - A love/hate relationship for a performance nut in FL. LOL -- I'll see if I can get the dyno graph and post it later for proof.

copy and paste this link into your browser window, dyno run 2 was done with the ac on (by accident):

http://www24.brinkster.com/ezerner/contourdyno1.jpg

The loss of torque is huge, especially down low (remember torque scale is on the right side), it doesnt really start to catch up until about 6k and then the peak numbers are only 3hp and 6 tq off the best runs of the day.

My Cougar bucks when shifting if the A/C is on and starting from first gear is slower than a turtle. The bucking may be caused by my belt (going to be replaced soon ). Do you guys experience the same thing in an MTX?

IT SHUTS OFF???? My god, this whole I've been thinking it's been broken, because it's routinely 140F in my car after it's been in the sun, if not hotter (I measured it one evening and it got that hot), and when I floor it out of the parking lot, the AC just blows air, nothing cold, I was going to get a new compressor or something. . .

My AC is one ALL the time with this heat wave in TX, so I feel boggey pretty much ALL the time. . .I hate that. . .
