Have it come out warm not HOT but warm and stay that way with the knob on MAX A/C and the dial turned to cold for about 5 minutes?

Well the other day i had my first CEL but couldn't hear or feel anything wrong so i pulled the #4 & #11 fuse IIRC and let the car sit for about 10 minutes, I put them back in and started up the car and no CEL so it was fine. I'm wondering since i reset the computer that maybe i did something to the A/C unit?

But about 10 minutes after i turned it off i turned it back on by switching the MAX A/C knob from on off on off and i heard the A/C just PUMP out and next thing i know is i have ICE COLD A/C.

IIRC there is some kind of actuator door that opens for A/C and closes for HEAT so maybe that door didn't open up or it had to reset it self?

Well it works now and i'm just wondering if anyone ever encountered this?

Was the car moving at freeway speed when you tried to turn on the A/C? I tried to turn mine on while the car was moving at approx. 70 mph....nothing! As soon as I slowed to off-ramp speed the darn thing kicked on. I'm thinking there is some kind of lockout on the compressor to keep it from being actuated at high speeds...

I had the same problem last summer. I was cruising at freeway speed and the A/C would not go on it just blew out hot air. It only happened one other time other than that. A little weird. The thing I really cant stand is how it surges so bad especially in lower gears where it will actually accelerate on its own when it cycles on and off.

When you go WOT, the compressor turns off IIRC. If it's not blowing cold right away (it's always wrm for a few moments, but if it's a real long time) theres a clutch that might not be engaging..maybe you just need a recharge as well. Get the AC checked for leaks. I'm not too keen on all this, I never use my AC.

Apart from a bad ac clutch the problem could be the high-low a/c pressure switches. If the system is low on pressure it will not kick in.Rule of thumb on ac, start the car with it 'off' let it run a bit before you load it up.You always need to drive the car after you you dump the memory on the pcm, it looks for input from the vss, just letting it idle will not get it........

Same thing happened to me yesterday. I had disconnected the neg battery cable to remove and clean my IAC valve. When I first turned on the AC later while driving it took about 5 min before the cold air came.

Once you clear the PCM, IIRC the AC Clutch will not turn on until the PCM has learned BASE IDLE.
Without the Base Idle reference,
the PCM does not know how to control the idle while the AC Clutch is engaged.

when I had my 2000 black SVT I had the same problem. The Driver side dash vent would stay warm for up to 10 minutes before becomming cool. The middle vent would also be warm but would take less time to cool, the passenger side duct would blow cool air within a few seconds of turning the AC on. I figured it was from the underdash ducting being heat soaked. I would set the blower to high and close the middle and passenger side ducts and allow all the air to flow through the driverside duct and the air would get cold much faster.

The car I have now, 99 SVT, all the ducts blow cold air 15 - 20 seconds after AC is selected on.

Thanks for all the input wink

Art Hazebrook......I did turn it on at hgwy speeds and once i got off the exit thats when it started blowing cold air.

I never did reset the computer after i took out the K&N from the drop in case, so now there should be more air fklowing. I mounted the K&N to the intake without the plastic case kind of like the poor mans KKM :p

But thanks once again for all the replys
