...and yes I DID search first...

I just returned from Autozone and got the code "P0171 bank 1 too lean" I am going to change the fuel filter along with using some fuel injector cleaner, I just changed my spark plugs 1 1/2 weeks ago and the CEL just came on last night (on my way to the club mad ). I am just curious as to what brand / type of fuel filter everyone recommends ('99 2.0L ATX) or fuel injector cleaner, I have used Outlaw before in another vehicle and it seemed to work fine. My vehicle is still under extended warranty and just wanted to be sure of what might be the problem before I went to Ford so I don't have to deal with trying to get jerked. Does anyone think Ford will not cover the 02 sensors if they are bad (56k on the clock) or that they will try and tell me more is wrong with the vehicle than really is? I AM going to have them call me before they do any work on the vehicle after they "assess the problem." TIA

Redline FI cleaner is good stuff. I swear by it; it cleaned up the set of old injectors that I installed and were missing with one treatment.

If you are going to use FI cleaner, just put it in the vacuum tube. That shows instant results.

I think he is referring to allowing the vacumm of the intake manifold draw the solution through the intake and cclean the intake valves too.

My pet peave with the Duratec is that the intake valve below the injector is always clean where as the secondary valve gets cruddy over time.

If you pray cleaners through the vacuum ports on top of the UIM, it helps to distribute the cleaner to all ports/valve, where as the "add-to-your-fuel" cleaners don't do anything for thsoe secondary ports.

I had a similar problem on my 95. A Ford mechanic told me to check the Mass Airflow Sensor. They will often give cause this code. I removed the sensor and cleaned the sensor wires. with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol. Clear the codes and give it a try. It won't cost you anything to try it. Good Luck!

Try a bottle of Gumout REGANE.
This stuff works wonders.
I've use it on FI and Carb engines and it is the ABSOLUTE best.

Use it once every oil change and you will be fine.
