The trunk light in my 99 Contour SE seems to be staying on when I close the trunk. I just found this out when I was parked in the dark last night and I saw light coming out from the lights above the license plate. The license plate lights were not on just the interior trunk light. Is there a switch or latch (like the ones on doors) that turns the interior trunk light on and off? tobor182@aol.com

I dont think so because mine has stayed on since day one of owning the car.

Micro switch that operates trunk light is mounted on left side of trunk latch. You have to remove trim at bottom of trunk opening. Switch held in place with press-in plastic tabs, if it loosens or falls off light will stay on. There is a wiring connector below latch in trunk, separating this connector should kill light.

I did this, but I needed light in the trunk for nighttime activity, so I decided to attach the wires back together.

I was working on some audio issues awhile back and had my back seat out for about a week. i noticed the light at that time. but, my the trunk light was on whenever my parking lights or headlights were on. maybe this is the problem you have, Hope it helps!

Mine comes on with the key and off with the key. Or on when the trunk is opened. - Iunderstand your frustration.

Mine shuts off when I close the trunk. Just checked my light switch also.... the trunk light does not come on with my parking or head lights.

Mine stays on when the park/headlights are on. Maybe it is a safety thing so the chick you kidnap from the bar and throw in the trunk can see the emergency release lever, even though it is GLOW IN THE DARK (she may be a blonde).

I think if you installed a pull chain switch it might add a nice touch.
