I am contemplating making the move from my 98CSVT to an Escape. I have my eye on a 2002 XLT loaded with leather with 60K. Due to a temp job change I have been given a company vehicle and have only put 410km on the SVT in the past 8 months. I don't really need to make the move right now but I know its something I want to do in the next year or so.
What do people think about the Escape and what do you think is a good price for the above mentioned vehicle. Also, what is a realistic trade in value for my 98.5CSVT with 70,000km's in above average condition.
Regards,
98 Black Contour SVT

I'm sure you don't need anyone telling you that these two vehicles offer extremely different driving experiences. I may be guessing here, but I would have to think that you purchased the SVT after becoming aware of it's virtues as a taut, responsive, European-influenced (if not downright European, although built in the US), MANUAL-TRANSMISSIONED performance sedan; an alternative to BMW 3-series, Audi A4, etc. at a bargain price. Maybe it's just me, but I always wonder about what motivates a person when moving between such extremely different vehicle types. In my mind, a "sports sedan" guy doesn't easily morph into a "SUV" guy. I don't mean to come across as harsh or judgemental, but maybe you really weren't a "sports sedan" guy to begin with.
Private selling price for your car might be in the $12-$13K area (I'm really just guessing), with trade-in value considerably less.

From what I have found out on my own the Escapes have been noted to have some transmission problems, and the Mazda Tribute has been known to have some better quality control+less problems, but everyone I spoke to who owns one(Escape)- loves it-I'm under pressure from the S.O. to get her one but the Contour stays. Svt's out here are going for around $14,500,that was last fall and it only had 70K on it.

You have got to be kidding me. "sport sedan guy", "SUV guy", come on. My post wasn't to solicit opinions on what category my driving preferences fit into. The real reason for my "extreme morph" is because I need something I can put a tow package on. I've been very happy with my CSVT and that is why I am looking at staying with Ford. If you want to categorize me, I'm an educated/informed consumer. Which is why I post/read forums like this. The Canadian Red Boook tops the value of a 98CSVT at just over 9,000 and a 2002 escape XLT at 24,000. I wanted to see if people on here agree with these prices. Plus any feedback on the Escape would be great. BTW, if all I can get for my CSVT is 9 then I will be sport sedan guy for a while because you can't buy that much "car" for 9 anywhere.

I was advised that the Escape had a problem with cold start during extreme winter condition. Not sure if they've rectified it with the new model.
I've driven a 2003 Escape Limited as a courtesy car early this year and I've found it to be very comfortable. It had good acceleration ... for an SUV. My wife liked it that she is trying to convince me to trade the Mustang for one as well as trying to get the Escape whenever we need a courtesy car.
