I am interested in purchasing Drag radials for my 98 CSVT.
Local tire shop -Discount Tire- told me that nobody makes anything that will fit on my car due to the size of my rotors.
Is there anybody that knows of a brand of tires, Size, and some light rims that would fit.
As long as they are not taller than 225/50/16 I will be ok.

Mods on car as we speak:
Intrax springs
LSD
Fidenza
Stage III Spec
Magnaflow cat-back
STOCK ROTORS

I appreciate any knowledge that you guys can pass my way!!

Mario

You could always go with a R-compound tire, such as a Kumho Victoracer, or a Hoosier, Typical Autocross tires with substantially
more grip than any street tires.

On another note, how do you like the intrax springs? which struts are you running?
Thanks

NO!!!!! JESUS, I don't know why you people think that these tires have better straight line traction then a typical street tire. If they do it is only marginally better (hoosiers definitely don't). They are made to hold lateral G's! That is why they make tires for road / autoxing and tires for drag racing! Are you getting it now?

Drag radials are designed to grip in a straight line. Autox R compounds are made to grip while turning. R compounds also give up a lot of grip after they have been heat cycled numerous times. They aren't made to do burnouts on, unlike drag radials. R compounds are also much heavier due to the fact that they have reinforced sidewalls to support, again, LATERAL G's!

DO NOT GET R COMPOUNDS FOR DRAG RACING, you'll waste your money if you do.

If you're running the stock 16" SVT wheel then you can go with the Nitto drag radial in either a: 205/40/16, or the 225/50/16. Or if you're running a 17"rim/tire combo you can go with the BF G-Force 225/45/17 or the 205/40/17.

The BF's will grip better as they have a softer compound than the Nitto("oo"treadwear compared to "100"treadwear).

I personally have the G-Force 225/45/17 hanging in my garage awaiting cool weather for my return trip to the track.....they are soft as butter!

You're wrong, sorry. Trust me on this one, R-compounds are far from ideal in straight line traction. They really are all that superior to a good street tire. Now in corners they are far faster, one because of sidewall construction and two because of the tread compound and design.

I could put my Victoracers on my car this weekend and go drag racing and run equal or slower times to my street tires. In the process I'd end up destroying my race tires. Just because the tread compound is soft doesn't make it good for certain environments. I wouldn't ever dream of going out autoxing on drag radials, so why would I ever concider going drag racing with my autoxing tires?

I encourage you to go out and buy a set of R compounds and do numerous burnouts on them to get them to temperature. I bet by the end of say 10 runs down the strip the R compounds would be useless.

I'd suggest for this person to go get a set of 15" Focus wheels for ultra cheap and buy some 225/50/15 BFG drag radials. $107 a piece vs the 225/50/16 $195 Hoosiers or $158 Kumhos.

I wouldn't dream of doing burnouts with my tires(9 of them hehe) cause well they don't require that high of a temp, and remember I agreed that heat cycles aren't the best for them.

Alas someone else has replied with a tire that will be suitable.

I love the Intrax springs. When I was researching them I found alot of negative feedback on them. People said they did not like the way their car looked. Some had complaints about uneven drop amounts. For instance 1.75 on the right side and 1.50-1.6 on the left.

I have had no problems what so ever. I decided to keep the stock SVT struts on after 1 week due to the fact that the car handles fantastic.

As far as the Drag Radials thanks for the replies.
The Tire store had Nitto Drags up on screen. The smallest size for 16's were 235/50/16. I told him that they would not fit and he just shrugged his shoulders. After that I left..

I'll try another store. The most reasonable solution that I have seen thus far is the focus wheel with 225/50/15 BFG Drag tires.

I appreciate all you thoughts on this subject.

Here's my idea: If you are gonna run a 15" wheel, look at getting a set of cheap used or steel or whatever that will fit. Lots of older euroFords (Tempo/Topaz, XR4Ti, etc.) also used the right offset and bolt pattern wheels. Who cares what you look like when you are racing?

I know the steelie Ford 15s go over my E0 SVT brakes with no problem all winter with the snows. Save some money on the wheels and use it for the tires. Tirerack *should* have whatever size you need in at least one of the top drag radial models (but I didn't actually check).
