I had made several changes to my car (Ford Contour 2.0L 1995 145K mil. ) ECT, Thermo, EGR, DPFE, O2 sensor, Clean the MAF sensor, New Air Filter, flush and replace the coolant fluid with 50/50 mixture.

But the Fuc...(sorry for the expression) needle of the temp gauge keeps getting me on my nerves...it was going above the normal operation range (but never had gotten an overheating problem so far) now after all those changes its playing with me...below normal, above normal...i dont know what to believe...i had CheckEngine light on but was the O2 sensor (dissapeared when changed). The EGR and DPFE were changed cuz the KOER and KOEO tests were bringing out that there were to high voltage on'em (but also dissapeared when changed), now i just have a 519 and 521 codes (Power Steering Pressure switch open or not working at all) and have to get it from a a dealer cuz i couldnt find anything similar on regular autostores...

But the freaking temp gauge flip-floping its driving me crazy...

Any idea will be really appreciated it

Pd: BTW after coming from miami last weekend everytime i press the gas pedal a little hard from the stop position the front left wheel start peeling out...it wasnt doin that before

The temperature sender may be going bad or there is a bad connection to it. (Not sure where this is on the Zetec.) In terms of the front wheels peeling out, you could have low tire pressure, or maybe a sticking brake on one of the other wheels. I suppose a diff problem is also possible, but maybe you just have a ton more torque than your used to The power steering sensor is probably a dealer only item as you mentioned.

I kinda have the same problem. Ever since coming back from a family memeber's house sunday. We had the air on all the way back (hour and a half or so drive back to my house). Now the freaking temp gauge is going all the way to the L then after a little bit goes straight down to the N. And not just gradually. It flies down there. Then sometimes it will go to the R then back down to the N. Also sometimes it goes to the M or the A and then back down to the N. I am wondering if something is partially stuck open not letting enough coolant thru to help cool the engine. Any help is greatly appreciated.

SOunds like the temp sender is on the way out, as temp fluctuations as great as they may get will NEVER causse the needle to move so quickly.

I would think that was a sticking thermostat.

I am thinking that or the sensor....cause it doesnt just fly down...but it doesnt go down that gradual either...but I am thinking either thermostat...sensor or not enough coolant...

Well, when my thermo started sticking on my mustang the temp would go up like that and then the pressure would build up and it would finally open and then the guage would come down. I didn't have any heat until the guage would come down, then aaaaah.(It was wintertime) If it's the same on contours then you shouldn't have heat until the gauge starts to fly down and the coolant is moving through. Might want to check that. I know it's summer but worth a look.

Actually I had heat regardless...cause I had the heat going when the temp started to go up...I threw the heat on....

renatonetmail says the thermo was replaced also. (I think that means thermostat.
