i've done 10000 searches, 9345 to be exact, and i can't decide how i want to paint my chrome ring and my rear reflector. i went to a auto store and asked, and the guy seemed to know what he was talking about. i bought some bumper paint, its a glossy black, and flexible, and some 3M 600 grit sand paper. he said to scuff stuff with paper then just do a few coats with black. no need for clear because its glossy, so he says. will this work? wont it? thanks.

Well, the process is right, but I'd get something that matched my color a little better than some generic glossy black paint, including some clearcoat to at least try to match the factory finish.

those two items are relatively rigid so you shouldn't have to use bumper paint, or flexiblizer or anything like that.
sand off the chrome on the ring, until you get to bare plastic. use a fine grit, say 5000, and keep dunking the paper in water (make sure you have wet-sanding paper). do the same for the reflector, it doesn't have to be totaly scratched up, just kinda foggy...
good luck.
what's the silver frost paint code, if i wanna get a can of spray made??

5000 grit? That seems awful high. I usually use 400 grit to just scuff it, then use a couple of coats of automotive primer, then spray a few light coats with whatever, then clear it 4 - 6 times, then go back through and wet sand it with 1500 or 2000 grit, then hit it with some Meguiars (or other) nice wax and buff it to a purty shine!

He probably meant 500 grit...
5000 grit would be like a cotton ball!

I talked to home depot and all they have is Rustoleum. So what i am thinking is paint the rear reflector with the rustoleum and then clear coat it. This should not be a problem should it, I would think the rustoleum would work??
