I am trying to track my loss of HP problem. At high RPM's 6000+ I lose alot of power. As my RPM's climb to around 4000 or so I start to hear what sounds like a buzzing or rattling. I think this is coming from outside of the car. I figure it is one of 2 things, The exhuast or the fuel pump. In the past the fuel pump has made some funny noises after the car has been turned off then back on a few minutes later. The other problem, probably related is when I start the car after it has sat for a few hours it bucks as I start to excelerate. If I keep my foot pressure even the car will start to accelerate then hesitate almost like its gonna stall, then recover all of the sudden. What can all this be? I'm looking to rule out or narrow down possible causes as I've already spent $400 at the dealership to fix a CEL for the EGR system. (they did a "service" mad )T hanks for any and all help.

New fuel filter and I keep on thinkin it is the fuel pump. I just want to narrow it down before sending it off to Ford so I don't continue to get rapped. mad

the timing belt could be off a tooth or 2, also your crank shaft sensor could be going...that is 2 other possibilities, not saying it deffiantly is but it is something to check it out...

smell the rubber hose going into the fuel pressure regulator (check the intake rebuild in the faq for labled pictures and location), if it smells like gas, or if gas dribbles out when you take it off, replace it immediately. This could also cuase a bad idle....

EDIT: ha ha, i should of proofread...by "replace it" i mean the FPR, not the hose, the FPR is $44 from autozone....i'm in the process of narrowing down my fuel presssure leak too...i have about 3 topics going right now... laugh mine happens as soon as you turn the car off though. I wish my pump made a lot of noise, it would sure save me time.
