I have a 96 mystique with a 2.5" exhaust. I have a glasspack that I got two years ago and I think it might have failed. I have posted many times about the performance of my car and it has gotten worse, I cant rev it past 3k rpms. I have replaced wires, plugs, O2, fuel filter, MAF, air filter, etc. There is a loud hissing sound coming from what seems that cat (Just around the bottom of the car in that area). Sounds like a sucking in of air but it could be blowing. But what I think it is now is that my glasspack failed, is this possible? And if it failed would it restrict the exhaust? The engine just basically seems to be getting choked when I try to rev it.

I would think the glasspack would likely just blow its contents out.

Why don't you suspect the cat of being plugged?

Best check your DPFE hoses. If off, sure sign pre-cats plugged. You should smell/hear exhaust in engine compartment if this problem exists. Other restrictions in exhaust system can cause loss of power, however.

DPFE = Differential Pressure Feedback EGR sensor. It has 2 short hoses that come from the exhaust manifold-to-EGR tube. On your car it is mounted on firewall at about the center of car (if Fig 6.26 in Haynes manual is accurate).
