Folks, please forgive me for a problem on a non-Contour, but the principles are the same. I suspect that the head gasket on my GM 4 cylinder' has a leak. Some experts' comments might help!
Symptoms: loosing coolant, no exhaust white smoke, don't seemed to see water in the oil or oil in the water, it is running fine, but there is lots of turbulance in the radiaator filler opening once the thermostat opens. I am about to check the compression.

Did you just have the radiator flushed, or have work done on the cooling system? It sounds like there is air in the system. I had a dodge daytona that was a royal pain in the a** to properly pressurize... I thought it had a blown head gasket too. I just needed to get rid of that extra air.

Updating with a new question. The compression shows 100 / 105/ 125/ 130. Borderline passing. A repair place showed me a slow external coolant leak from the head gasket. Can I use Bar's Leaks without clogging my radiator or go directly to remove / replace cylinder head??

Just quick/ make do kinda fix. Try adding some of that stuff to your oil that is supposed to boost compression/seal leaks. I think one is call Engine Restore. It might help.
