Searching proved inconclusive........Basically, I have a magnaflow res and an optimized stock-y. Should I replace my mufflers, or lose them altogether? Or neither, since my main concern now is to get rid of the puny tips, should I just replace those? Any advice, help, yelling, etc. is appreciated.

people have lost the mufflers altogether... it is LOUD and decreases your back pressure, that can actually decrease performance at Low RPMS. My advice to you is, get Magnaflow universal mufflers, with 45 degree slanted tips. It will look and sound excellent.

my opinions...

Loud isn't neccesarily bad, as long as cabin noise isn't tremendous. As far as the backpressure, I'll let others argue whether it's good or bad. But, thanks for the advice. Any other takers?

If you have the cash I would go with the Magnaflow Race Series mirror finished 14842's no tips needed and they look and sound very nice. Cost a little more but worth it to me for the sound I got out of them. Here's a link...if you decide to get magnaflows I would pm Stazi the Aussie first you might be able to get a better deal through him.

Exactly, but what I want to know is if the price is worth it, as opposed to just losing the mufflers completely, for much cheaper.

That's kind of a no brainer. The mufflers quoted above are +/- $100 apiece...versus probably $40 to cut off and weld on straight pipe. Throw in some $$$ for tips...

Obviously its cheaper, my question is: Is it worth it all around to spend the money on mufflers, or is it better(sound, performance) to just chop them? Everyone is being helpful, though, thanks for all the input.

Can someone who has chopped their mufflers chime in, or anybody who can pursuade me in one direction or another?

One thing you can do is plug one of your mufflers with a rag and have a shop cut the other side off before the muffler ... listen to the sound and see if it's what you like. If not, just weld the cut back together.

First I chopped off the resonator and it sounded ok, then i removed the mufflers also and it was cool at first but got old quick. It was just to load for me. The main reason for doing this was because I could do it in auto class back in high school and I didnt have alot of money. It was cheap.

I would get some 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 (what ever your y-pipe is) exhaust tubeing back to some mufflers, magnaflow or whatever.
