Please bear with me, I'm new to most of this stuff, but I'm learning smile

While driving at either low/high RPM, the engine kinda "burps" when at a consistant speed. Its starting to do it when accelerating, hard or not. Its pretty slight but getting worse.

Also, not sure if its related, (I'm guessing it is) but when I push down on the gas or let off the gas, no matter how slowing, the car jerks a little, almost like the "burp" but more of a jerk. (can I be more vague?) I have about 51k miles on it and the only mod as of yet is the tru-rev intake. Any suggestions would be helpful. BTW the CEL is on and I am getting a code scanner friday, that should help too.

Thanks in Advance

Is the A/C on while this burping is happening? If so, it's the compressor clutch engage/disengage cycle. Universal pain in the butt for the Contique.

I have the same exact problem with my Contour.
I only have 26k miles on this thing and its burping just like you say. My a/c is off and its jumping every 5-10 seconds.
Its much more noticable at higher rpms but happens all the time.
its really pissing me off and i need some suggestions too.
Please Please Please help.

Mine was doing the same thing at 45k miles, I bought autolite app 764 plugs(ithink that was the number, you might do a search on plugs) and replaced the old ones...problem gone!

Try it and come down to the national meet! If you can't make it, remember that you can still enter the raffle to win great prizes!!!! Tickets are only $5 for the raffle. There is a post in the general forum about it.

My engine sorta goes in and out at idle. I don't know if this is the same thing, though I plan to change plugs soon. Is this something different? At high speeds/revs, engines runs as smooth as a 4 cyl. with high miles should. I think all my problems, other than cat. conv. smell, occur at lower speeds/rpms.

I changed the plugs to the Bosch about 2 weeks ago and the problem seemed to get better for about a day or so and then back to same old.

Ok, after getting codes scanned (CEL was on) I got a P0402 error. I did some searching on CEG and found a lot of info, but nothing describing my problem. Does this code just occur when there is an issue at idle, or does it cause performance issues throughout RPM range. I also saw that the O2 sensor might be related and that a bad sensor might cause these issues. Is it possible the O2 sensor is bad and cause a problem with the EGR system? Any advice would be helpful, really don't want to take the car in, kinda want to do it myself. Thanks.

I've just crossed 30K miles and am noticing the same. I only get the lurch when the AC is on and, when I'm doing highway/interstate speeds. Once the AC is turned off, burps go away.

I also hear a clicking noise that seems to come from the engine. Almost sounds like the sparks out of an electric lighter for Gas burners. Don't know if this is related to my engine burp.
