I'm having a concern with shifting on my 99 SVT. When the engine/transmission are cold, I have no problems whatsoever, but as the transmission warms up, shifting into second gear becomes difficult. Occasionally, I pull it down into second, and then let out on the clutch and the transmission will pop out of gear.
I've pressed the magic orange button on the back of the transmission with the car in second and that seemed (not 100% sure though) to make a difference for about two weeks. I have checked the shifter cables and they seem to be firmly attached to the vehicle..
Has anyone had this problem, or have any suggestions. My car has 39K on it, but I have the ESP, so if it comes down to it, I could still go see the dealer without great expense, but I suspect they will return with their all-to-familiar "unable to reproduce problem" or "condition described is normal operating characteristic of vehicle".
Thanks.

The only time you should touch the auto adjust button(s) is with the trans & stick in neutral...but your problem sounds either the shifter tower or a selector prob...

I suffered through the same problem for two weeks. Mine was a little worse in that both first and second would disappear from the pattern altogether. I would adjust the "magic orange button" and all would be well for, maybe a whole day. Finally, yesterday, I got some help instead of doing it all alone. The day started with all the shifts going well. After about 20/30 stop-and-go exercises, first and second were gone again. This time I had a friend move the lever right to left repeatedly while I watched the action underneath. Damnned if the cable wasn't slipping in the transmission positioner, almost pulling clear out! I could get third, fourth, fifth and reverse...no problem. When I tried for first or second, it acted as if it were disconnected. After piddling with the "magic orange button" for about five minutes, it popped out farther than before and with a definite (sweet-sounding) click! An added advantage...I can now even shift into first without having to come to a complete stop like before. Hey, this is like having a new transmission and I am happier than ever with my SVT. John
