quick question, is it legal for your boss to "bug" or record your conversations in your office without telling you? the reason i ask is b/c i share an office with this girl and her and i were talking the other day. i mentioned that i didn't think the boos liked me too much basically b/c he's always a d*ck to me. then yesterday he comes up to me and says "cliff, i don't want you to think that i don't like you, b/c i do, i think that you are a good guy" i asked her if she said anything and she says she didn't. she's a good friend of mine so i kinda believe her more than him. there have been other instances that lead us to believe this, i was just wondering if they were allowed to do something like that.
"What did you think about that Dorothy girl?"
"The whole Judy Garland thing kinda turned me on. That doesn't make me some sort of fag does it?
"Nah baby, your money."

I know that your boss can read your e-mails if it's on the company server and you're using your company e-mail address. So I'm guessing that they can probably do the same with phone calls. But hey, at least your boss loves you now. Or at least says he does - kind of like my parents. Just be careful.

Once at work, you have given up almost all privacy. Phone calls, emails, and coversation are not protected. Certain situations cannot be recorded on video or tape, but it varies state to state.

No idea about laws in VA, but in CA recording the conversation requires formal notification, though it's possible they slipped something in the "employee handbook".
Still, I doubt your boss has TIME to listen through tens of hours of audio tape just to catch you at that little comment. I think it's coincidence.

Well, I know that they can't record or video in the rest room. So, there you go, take the broad to the men's room and have a conversation with her there.

You are your employer's bytch when you're at work. They can videotape you, audiotape you, anything. But they can't use anything in court unless you know about the recording. That kind of varies by state I guess.
