I bought a new CD player for my 95 contour, and I cannot get the speakers to work. I bought the correct wiring adapters, but I cannot get the speakers to make a sound. I am sure it is wired right. The radio works, and this is the 3rd one in a row I bought in less than 24 hours, so it cannot be the radio. Is there something I am doing wrong? The wiring adapter has the gray plug and the square black plug.

One thing to check would be whether you car has amp behind glovebox and if so are you buying proper wiring harness to take that into account.
The corollary would also be true.

HMMMMMM
I have a 95 and I put in a sony system.
Make sure you have 2 adapters plugged in. One should be a long thin one and the other should be a square one.
Everything should work from that. There shouldn't be any other connections (ground, power, etc..) everything should go through the 2 sockets...
I can't imagine why the speakers wouldn't work.
When you plug the old unit back in, do they work??

Make sure you plug the power in,, but if the head unit is working then you have obviously done that. Once you check to see if you have premium sound(factory amp), then you can troubleshoot some more.

I will check for the amp. I plugged in a speaker to the back of the head unit and it worked fine. Yes I have the 8 pin black plug in, and the larger gray plug. How do I get behind the glove box?

Just open the glove box to the plastic stop, and then gently push in on the sides by the stop to clear the edge. By this time the box cover should be able to turn to the hinge stop. The amp is directly behind the hole. You can see it when you open the glove box and look in the crack between the box and dash.

Thanks guys!!!!! It was the amp. Now the question is, can I still run the head unit through the amp? Will it mess with anything?

I just put ina new head unti also and experienced the same problem in my 95 Contour with premium sound. Make sure you have the blue power antenna cable slpiced with the other blue cable. This sends pwer to the amp so it will work and send the signals to your speakers. The instructions that came wilth my wiring harness that had a big warning about it, but of course I did't read the instructions first. Hope this helps

You can, but everyone here will scream at you, AND you'll need and expensive ($65) step-down adapter.

Get the amp bypass kit from Crutchfield. $15. You won't miss the amp.

I had my svt's sony hu going through the stock amp, it may sound better to bypass the amp, but it should still be ok.
