My air conditioner clutch will not engage (therefore no AC). The radiator fan also does not come on when I select AC. I did some cursory checks of fuses and relays F3 and F4 - but nothing obvious. Does anyone have a wiring diagram that could be faxed or Emailed? Or, a description of the circuit path would be better that nothing. Thanks in Advance!!

Dude, my car started doing this jsut this spring! I had cold air last year, and now, when I turn on the AC, I too do not hear the thing go on and the engine doesn't lose any power! And no cold air... I'll be checking those relays you're talking about this afternoon when I get home.

If thats your problem, that means you have a leak somewhere and most of your refrigerant (R-134a) has probably leaked out. You need to find a reliable A/C shop (this can be tricky), and have them find the leak and repair it, and then recharge the system for you. Unfortunately A/C work tends to be kind of hard on your wallet, but if you find a place that does it right, then you won't have to worry about it for a while. Good luck.

And, since you mentioned the fan, the radiator fan kicks to high speed when the refrigerant pressure rises above a certain level. Without the compressor running, you won't get the pressure to switch on the high-speed fan. (Without refrigerant, you sure won't get the pressure either! Sorry, couldn't resist...) Garrick

Welcome onboard.
Low refrigerant most probable cause. Take it in for leak check and recharge.

you can get recharge kits at Wal-mart for about $30. I had cold air in the spring then it went away. I could hear the system cycling very fast when the Ac was on. The kit come with a hose, valve, pressure guage and a can of R-134A with oil and sealant in it. It imediately brought very cold air back right after the R-134A was put in. It is still cold but not quite as cold so I may still have a leak. Extra cans of R-134A were only $10, all were premixed with oil and sealant

Any time you disconnect the battery, it takes a while for the computer to reset things. This should be the situation with the air conditioning. It took mine most of the 25 mile drive home to start blowing cool, but it did work. Hey AC guys... i just disconnected my battery yesterday to do some work and today I didn't have ANY AC... I posted this and someone was trying to help me... Is that computer resetting really the cause for my AC not working ?? I just need to know if that theory above is on the right track... Thanks

BBorges: Only if your Contour is a 2001 model and you have replaced OEM with a HAL computer, could it explain your problem. The right track might be to review the "some work" you performed, and any fuses that might have blown.
