I'm hoping someone knows of an easy fix for this because my mechanic didn't. My airbag light flashes, my horn doesn't work, and my steering waheel cruise control doesnt work either. All the fuses check out fine.

I'm a high school student with little to no money. I have a 98 Contour SE w/ 2.5L 24v V6 w/ 100k miles. I'd like to make some cheap performance upgrades <$1000 or so. I only spent 4k on the car. which fuses did u check the ones under the dash or the ones under the hood if it was the one under the dash check the fuses under the hood

Unfortunately, I checked both sets, but in the manual, the only thing related to the steering wheel is under the dash.


I'm a high school student with little to no money. I have a 98 Contour SE w/ 2.5L 24v V6 w/ 100k miles. I'd like to make some cheap performance upgrades <$1000 or so. I only spent 4k on the car. The 'ribbon' cable behind the air bag/steering wheel appears to be broken....

I Will lay money on it that it is your clockspring behing the horn pad.. I have seen at least 30 Contours come into my old dealership when I was writing service.. They all have the same symptoms.. eek

Airbag has back-up power, wait at least a minute after battery disconnection before commencing work.


98 Mystique LS v6 atx 110,000km
97 Contour LX v6 atx 125,000km
stock CD on LS, cass on LX
spoiler, tinted windows on LS only
4 wheel discs on LX only
All other available options on both

Just disconnecting the battery is all that you need to do.. But wait around 2-3 Minutes becauseI have seen them go off on technicians and $700.00's is a big chunk to eat... Be careful..
