Hey guys i went to fill my car up with gas today and 25min later i got a CEL. i looked at everything and notn is loose(IAT senser). I disconectd the Neg battery and it went away for most of the day, Well its back again and was wondering if it could be bad gas. This is the 1st time my car ever threw a CEL. Anyone have any ideas.

Go to Autozone and scan the code. No way anyone could possibly guess what it is as there are hundreds of reasons for a CEL.

Scanning is the only way to be sure, but make sure your gas cap is on tight. If it tangled with the tether, it may be loose and that will throw a CEL.

I've been going thru some cel problems with my 97 contour 4cyl. One of the things the mechanic mentioned (not a ford dealer), was that a bad gas cap (this is tested in Mass as part of emmissions test) could cause your problem. Also was mentioned that if you gas up with car running, it can cause the cel to light up sometimes?

I have had a CEL come up after gasing up because of filling it to high. Have to make sure that when the pump shuts off you don't squeeze in that last 50 cents.

I had the same thing happen to me a month ago and it ended up being the HEGO sensor. I had it replaced and since then my gas mileage has gone up significantly and the car runs quieter!
