When talking about rubbing, is everyone talking about the fender lip, the fender liner or the suspension? I have 225/50/16 KDWS that have rubbed the suspension in the rear when autocrossing. I'm not sure the name of the part (radius arm?), but it extends forward from the wheel hub and the tires have worn the paint off in a small spot on each side.

I had the same rub on my rear too, rubbed the paint off also. Either that bar needs to be modified for the 225's or I will have to just run 215's in the back.

Orrrrrrrr, you could put 225/45/16's instead of 225/50/16's and have no rubbing + a good looking tire. 225/50/16 = Ford Ranger looking tires. But if you like the lifted offroading look then stay with the 50 series

I wish I could do this, but they don't make race tires in that size. But I don't really care about my tires rubbing when I'm racing.

I'm talking about my tires rubbing on the suspension, not on the fender lip. My 235's rub on the fender lip slightly.

Qbert, you say the 225/50/16's are Quote:
rubbing on the suspension, not on the fender lip
, any idea how much room you've got left to the lip?
Would a wheel spacer move it out enough w/o getting it into the lip? I'm also wanting to run 225's but 225/50/15's, I'll have to start checking offset measurements on my 15" rim sets.
To those that think 50 series are "Offroad" profiles, it's quite obvious they're never done any real off-roading nor any competition driving, but likely done a lot of posing in the parking lots with their slurpies. My Nitto 450 215/45/17's on the SVT are for posing only, and that's what I'll use them for, anyone got some spare change for a slurpie .
The 450's are a nice tire but give up way too early. I've got 205/55/15's all season tires that will out corner, accelerate or brake them.

On my E1's I believe a 3mm-5mm spacer would be enough to stop the rubbing all together. I don't know this for a fact though, but it is an educated guess. You would only need these on the rear. The only time I've rubbed up front was when I was autoxing and there was a hard right hand corner that I was trail braking hard for and had the tire stuffed into the wheel well. On the street you would probably never have it happen.

*snicker* Yeah, see, my car is doing commuter duty, not...whatever, and so I'm dealing with speed bumps, potholes, pavement transitions, and all the other normal driving crap. Give me a little extra sidewall over the rubberband-on-a-spool look anyday.

HAHA, if you seriously think that 215/45's look like rubberbands you are sadly mistaken. Also, the ride quality of my old 215/45's was almost exactly the same as the ride quality on my 215/50 KDW's. Now when you go to 18" wheels you start getting into rubberband territory.

I'm running 225/50/15s on my 98 mystique with stock rims no buldge, V rated Falkens
Sears special for 90 bucks with roadside,
oh by the way I also have that dumb strut guard also
I wanted to put on 225/60/15 for better comfort but they wouldn't fit with the strut guard and they wouldn't remove it.
