so just .2ghz more burned it up? Did you get a bigger fan/heat sink or no?

on the 2100+ I was using a thremaltake VOlcano 7+ which is rated to support up to a 2800+

the 1800+ I have a Volcano 9 with a differnt fan on it the one that came on the volcano 9 was a 74cfm thermaltake fan I replaced it with a 80mm Vantec tornado which pushes 84.1cfm that heatsink with the original fan was rated up to a 3000+ now I have a thermalright SLK900U with a 92mm vantec tornado rated for 119cfm.

and with the two that burned up none of the went above what AMD states as the max working temps for the cores. my 1700+ on a hot day will hit up to 140F where the core is supose to be able to handle 190F before it would fail.

So unless I can keep it really cool, I just need to forget overclocking it?

basicly.... and being that you have an older thunderbird core they tend to run hotter than the Tbred's or the Bartons which are the two current cores.

without having to suck wang how do you get a company to replace a component which you have abused?

BTW If you can build a water cooling system they really make a difference, I made a real ghetto unit last year, it involved an old p3 heatsink drilled out and sealed up with an arcrylic top (ooh the luxury) for the waterblock, a cheap submergable pump and a bubba keg as a cistern, some 3/8 hosing, 3/8 barbs wire ties and a tube of plumbers goop and you got yourself a hero's water cooling system. Cost me next to nothing, the beer was the expensive part.

carefull with amd's tho. Make sure that you connect the fans properly and none of the wires are loose. if the fan fails or is not on right, say bye bye.
