Check that battery first. The original batteries in these cars have been down to die suddenly and without warning, and when they're dead, they're completely dead - won't hold a charge at all.
When my battery died, my car reacted the exact same way as yours. I replaced the battery with a DieHard, and the car was as good as new again.
At first I thought I had a massive electrical short, but it wasn't - just a stupid dead battery.
