Driving back from NY to MA this morning around exit 35 in CT on I95, I must have zoned out bc I didn't realize I was in one of those 55mph zones. Even worse, I didn't notice a smokie until it was too late. Saw him pulling out as I went past. He said I was clocked at 80 in a 55, and the ticket is for $239!

The sucky thing is I don't usually drive that fast and this will be my first speeding ticket ever (15yrs w/ license).

Any pointers/tips on fighting this? Comments from those who've dealt w/ CT would be most appreciated. Thanks.

i know MA doesnt report to CT for tickets, and im sure it works the other way too

PS if you do decide to plead not guilty, take a lawyer with you, itll cost you $$$ but you get away with just making a charitable donation

cost me a total of 400 to have my wreckless driving dropped 2 weeks ago

200 to the lawyer, 200 to the granby ambulance

If it's true that CT doesn't share ticket info w/ MA, then I may just pay it, since I'm more worried about insurance cost & safe driver ranking.

Will the ticket be thrown out if the issuing officer misses the court appearance? Did the cop show up for your court appearance? Finally, does CT have the option of taking a driving course to avoid the ticket on my record? Thanks.

when I got my speeding ticket I just payed it. No points or anything, just a little letter saying if I get a ticket again, for speeding, in the next three years that I would have to take 4 hours of driver retraining

It will be difficult to to justify your going 80 in a 55.

But CT and MA do not recriprocate about motor viehicle laws and that includes DUI, so that may include your insurance company as well.

brian remember hes from MA not CT, thats if you have a CT license

i have a lot of police officers that are friends, and i asked more than once about MA, CT, and tickets, and was told that they dont share the info.

at the end of last riding season i got a ticket for 70 in a 45, i just paid it

jsmith has a good point also, theres NO way you can justify 80 in a 65.......and if you DO in fact go to the court DO NOT say you were going 65-70 if you tell them you were even going 67 YOU HAVE JUST ADMITTED YOUR GUILT

There's always the chance the cop won't show up for the court date. In NH that means you are "NOT GUILTY". Saved my ars big time once. My theory: always go to court in case the cop doesn't show up. Even better - if you get scheduled a date, ask for a new one when you get the notice. Chances are even better the cop won't show up for the second date.

i agree with your theory if you get a ticket in your own state

but with this in mind (the fact CT doesnt report to MA for tickets) why take a day off from work (lose $$) and then what happens if you are found guilty anyways?

in this situation i would just pay the ticket and take the dollar loss....on the other hand, if he got the ticket in MA i would be right in court with you fighting it.....

I've decided to just pay the ticket and look at it as an expensive lesson. The main deciding factors were:

- doesn't appear that the ticket will be reported to MA, so my insurance & driving ranking won't be affected

- I'm about 2hrs away from the location of the incident and would have to take a day off work

Thanks for the replies.
