I was looking at computers with either probably 2.8 ghz Pentium 4 or AMD 3000+ or 3200+ processors. They both would have 1 gig RAM and a fairly decent video card. I was just wondering which processor would be faster? The AMD processors are a little bit cheaper than the Pentium ones.

I would go with the AMD. The Pentium might be a little faster but the AMD will save you $$. I personaly like AMDs. Some people like Pentiums while others like AMDs. I wouldn't be suprised to see a 50/50 split on this opinion thread.

I would have to say it is gonna depend on what you plan on doing... I have an AMD athlon XP 1700+ (1.47Ghz) clocked at ~3200+ (2.26Ghz) speed and I will be soon replacing it with a Pentium 4 2.4Ghz 800mhz front side bus with hyper threading. I do alot of video encoding and the pentiums even without hyper threading they just kill the AMDs... gaming intel is also the way to go. if you are just gonna use it for surfing the we then by all means save some money buy an AMD.

Riiight....

They both have there strengths and weaknesses. I personally like AMD, but there is nothing wrong with INTEL. Remember it is not all about clock speed...

Now I hate America? That is a new one to me.

If your just looking to save soem cash then go AMD but other wise go with the pentium. From what I can understand the AMD's can be overclocked more then the pentiums but they also run a little hotter. Correct me if im wroung on that. The penitums again from what understand are a little better in general.

AMDs do run hotter, but I don't think it's anything to worry about. I haven't had an intel since my 200mhz mmx, and I haven't had any problems with any of the 5 or 6 AMDs I've had since then. I'd vote AMD.

now officially a troll, i guess. used to have a black 96 SE, until it broke down one too many times. now I'm hunting for a motorycle.

Well the AMD's can be overclocked based on the core. I am an AMD man myself, but lately Intel has been about the same price. The AMD TBred version B core I believe can be OC'ed more then most AMD's. The other problem with AMD is heat, the Intels have bigger surface area so heat isn't an issue. If you want a stable computer with good all-around performance then the Intel or AMD is the way to go. I don't really see either having any real problems that you should encounter.

Go with what your going to do on the computer. AMD is good for video games and Pentium is for more work ethics.....files,internet, whatever...
