98 SE V6 ATX. On hard down shifts , lower gear engaging on hill, pedal to the floor, a sharp meduim - high pithched squealling noise occurs for about 1-2 seconds. I have a new serp belt. Any ideas what may be causing this? Could this be the other small belt (not replaced)? Thanks.

you got a new belt??? i have a 96 contour and it had the TSB on it for the power steering lockking up when running through a puddle.. the TSB called for a new splash guard, a metal pulley on the P/S pump and a new belt... i had the print out and took it to the dealer when the car was new...
they did the TSB on if with no charge as the car was under warranty, but the belt they replaced it with was not the same code, different numbers.. in a few days it started to squeel and make noise.. i then circled the belt number on the TSB that i had printed out and brought the car back to have them put on the correct belt.. i guess when i need a new belt i have to have the numbers for the old one(the one they now have on it) to make sure it does not squeel....
might be the same problem you have?????
