my lights dim at night........like when i turn the car on, turn on the lights, then turn on the air.....my dash lights will dim then brighten back up.....this even happens with my stereo off....i got a system with a yellow top battery...they dont dim with hard notes.....would this be a pre-cursor to my alternator goin out? cant our alternators be "re-built"? tia...

Even with my brand new rebuilt alternator, the lights are dim at low revs. Best way to check is with a volt meter across the battery with the car running and at idle... Voltage should be 13-13.5 volts. If it is lower, but not much (say 12-12.5) rev the engine up and see if it comes into normal ranges. If it does come up, I would say you probably dont have a problem. Sure, it could be a pre-cursor to the alternator dying, but that would mean my new alternator is getting ready to kick the bucket (doubt that...) -Nick

Do you mean while you are just sitting, or when you first drive away. If the latter it could be the ABS system going thru' its startup routine (my '97 does this, but not my '98).

Well they may be undeveloped but I'm sure you have them.  No ABS then you don't have my problem, back to alt test as per prior post.
