I don't know about today, but having studied in France at two universities over the course of a year a short time ago, I didn't hear anything BUT the word "e-mail" used to identify it... Morons. Reminds me of a French lifeguard who tried to convince me that wearing Speedo's were more "sanitary" than wearing swim trunks to the school swimming pool. I couldn't stop laughing because he was dead-serious in that being the sole reason why all swimmers must wear them. France. The other "F" word...

Don't get too self-righteous guys.
I agree whole heartedly that it's stupid, but the US started this stupidity over 100 years ago by changing the spelling of words so US English written words would be different from the rest of the worlds written English.
Harbor instead of Harbour, etc., etc., etc.
Most recently changing the pronunciation of Z (said) to zee or something else equally as stupid so it will forever more be confused with C.
The biggest problem is that the French language is slowly going in the same direction as Latin - becoming a dead language, and understandably most French speaking people don't like the reality of the situation.
Unfortunately, because of this they are continually doing some pretty stupid things, and they seem to be doing them more frequiently.
The Japannese are also doing similar things in the same stupid futile effort to stop the inevitable.

now not ALL Frenchies are worthless... one of my friends has a French exchange student who was MORE than willing to come and help us sandbag around another friend's house when our town flooded.
he even stated that he was "amazed" at how helpful everyone was and how we all were eager and willing to go help others when we didn't benefit from it.
