Yeah, I was thinking about doing the 3rd brakelight similar to how you mentioned, but by hooking up a multi-stage switch, or potentiometer on the brake pedal with a simple logic circuit, or else a series of pressure switches in the line or something set at different psi levels so I could make just the center part light up at light braking, then another row in the next set light up during moderate and then the rest on the ends would light up when you increase the brake pressure even more. So the lamp would light up center to ends based on how much pressure you applied to the brakes. I don't know if I'd ever get around to that project though? Been kinda busy at this point in my life
Also, the reason I didn't do anything to the highbeams, is because for me it's functionality before looks, and Contour highbeams on pre-'98s work AWESOME, and I didn't want to give up those to get better lowbeams. And you need that stock lense design to properly distribute the light from this type of parabolic fixture (putting a clear lense over the front would make the beam just turn into a very narrow 'spot' type beam that would be prettymuch unusable in any kind of driving situation.
