Hey first of all I want you guys to know I'm new to this site and I don't know too much about cars. I'm 16 and my first car is a 95 Contour GL. I was wondering if there is anyway to make the back windows roll all the way down instead of stopping half way down. Also, I was on CarDomain.com looking at modded Contours and I noticed alot of people took out the resonator in their car. What exactly does that do when you take it out? If anybody could help me out that'd be great. Thanks.
Joe

No way on the rear glass. The curve of the lower section of the rear door cuts into the path the glass takes down. In the old days (my days) all cars had rear windows that went all the way down, even coupes.
A resonator is a muffler thats in the center underside of your car. It's designed to keep the exhaust system from resonating, or humming. At certain loads and frequencies the system can hum or resonate. It can be quite loud.
I had my resonator removed and it droned like mad. Here's the story. I had a sport muffler put on and it sounded okay. Later I bought another sport muffler and decided to try duals (a Y-Pipe, not true duals). At that time I had the resonator removed and the car sounded awesome at idle, nice reving sounds too. But, under a load, or going uphill the entire exhaust pipe(s) would hum and drone. It was quite loud
It really depends on whether you don't mind it. I put up with it for awhile, but eventually put a sport resonator back on from magnaflow. Now it sounds a little louder than stock, but no drone. Compromise.

A mufflers shop will cut out the res and put in a piece of straight pipe for about $50. (That's all there is to it...) I thought mine was only slightly louder and a good first exhaust mod. (The wifey didn't even notice ) Ask to keep your old resonator in case you don't like the sound. (You can get it welded back in...) You could also install a magnaflow straight through res for about $50 more. Benefits: Slightly more open exhaust for better mid/upper pull, slightly better gas mileage, slightly cooler engine temps.

Definately the way to go here. You'll get a sweeter exhaust tone too.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

It's easy and cheap to have removed. Did mine at Meineke. But be prepared to have it put back. It may be too loud for your tastes.
Good luck! Nate

Welcome to CEG. If you stick to this site, you will learn a LOT about your car. My '96 mystique is my first car too. If you dont like your car now, wait until you come to this site for a while longer.

Where could I find one of these? and is it a universal fit or would I have to get one that fits a 95 contour?
