It almost sounds as if you are running them without enough resistance. Look for a data sheet for them if you know make/model. I know that the proper formula for the resistance is on the site somewhere. It looks something like:
R = V - Vf * 1000 / mA
R = Needed Resistance V = Voltage (car) Vf = Forward Voltage of LED mA = LED's current draw
I cant remember if that is the correct formula, so dont use it unless you can double check it with someone else.

You need 3.6v and 5v lcds, and just solder them into the old lcd locations instead of rewiring everything. In the driver's window switch with the red lcd facing down it goes looking left to right left(long) right(short). All other switches, 5v works well... resistor side (short) ground side (long). Very easy to do--use a fine tip soldering gun, and I do reccomend an assortment of needlenose pliers. I bit the bullet and picked up radio shack brand, but they've worked now for a month with no issues.
Now if only I could get my girlfriend to quit kicking the shifter!
I think, I tinker, I play around, I build.

duh... I'm sorry, instead of the red lcd being down it's with the red lcd to the right, then after switching sides, the green lcd to the left

hmm... i used the stock resistors 1st of course. leds went out twice. then replaced them w/ 1/4w 300 or 330 ohm from radioshack. and still had to replace leds 2 more times. does it matter which way the resistors goes?

Its none of that.......I got the 100 off of ebay too,and am having the same problem.They just go out all the time.I got tired of pulling everything apart only to have the other one go out the next day.Its a bunch of bunk LEDs.We got what we paid for.I went ahead and bought some good ones about a month ago and havent had one go out yet. The ebay ones are good for something thats not going t be lit up alot.Like a flashing alrm light or the light on your alrm remote etc.
