Da symptoms:

Well, about two months ago I installed a drop-in K&N pod air filter in my SVT. Around this time also, I noticed my car was slightly louder with what I would describe as a droning noise. I usually listen to the radio pretty loud so it hadn't bothered me too much but lately I've been noticing the noise has seemed to have gotten louder. Upon further inspection I noticed that when I turn right, the droning stops. The drone stays while driving straight and vering even slightly left. A slight turn in the other direction and the drone stops.

Other things I have noticed--The noise only seems related to the speed of the car. When I rev the engine the noise does not rise or fall and no change when I depress the clutch. The noise is speed sensitive in relation to the speed of the vehicle.

I was under the car a week ago and I have not noticed any exhaust problems but I didn't inspect it thoroughly. If it was an exhaust problem it would rise and fall with the engine speed.

The K&N air box is sealed properly and there are no leaks. I don't notice any clunking in the car either since I suspected something mechanical like a wheel bearing and my wheel alignment is perfect with fairly new tires. No vibration in the steering wheel but I do notice NOISE induced vibration when the droning gets loud enough. Tomorrow I plan on jacking the car up and giving the front left wheel a tug to see if it is indeed tight with no slop but so far I am at a loss of what the problem is.

It's not a whine, it's a drone. What the hell is it?? Thoughts?

When one of my wheel bearings went bad it made a droning sound like I had snow tires. More pronounced when I turned the wheel (don't remember which way).
Might be a possibility, especially if it doesn't change with rpm, or idling.

Just a thought.

Although others recommend it, I'm not sure play will be felt with bearing starting to be noisey. Trust you ears.

Here's a recent post of interest, but a search of wheel bearing will turn up many more I'm sure.

If, after diagnosis, you wish to consider DIY bearing replacement read this:

Easy way to check to see if it was the filter would be to put your old one back in (if you kept it). That would rule out the intake.

But a sound that goes away when you turn would be more into your cv joints or perhaps a front bearing. I have experienced the bearing doing this, not on the contique platform though.

I threw away the old filter. I am pretty sure now it is the bearing based on what I've been reading.

Maybe an engine/tranny mount? When turning the wheel you are moving the powertrain away from whatever it is resting against. The tranny mount is under the airbox. Just a guess. Had one car that did this all the time and upon close inspection of the engine mount I found a metal to metal contact when I turned the wheel to one side.
