This is a rehash from the general forum, but I thought it might be better suited over here.

So I was heading down I-71 to Columbus, just crusing right along when lo and behold, is that smoke coming from my dash?

I suppose I shouldn't use my heater blower unless I'm sure the insurance will pay for my car if it become a smouldering heap... (I know, it's my bad)

Could someone run an OASIS report for me on the following VIN?

1FALP65L5SK186100

1995 Ford Contour GL, V6

Thanks in advance, I know I have a couple recalls relating to the heater blower switch I need to take care of, but I wanted the specifics.

Thanks a lot.

Where is the smoke coming from? Driver/Passenger footwell? HVAC controls?

Yeah, I got the OASIS. The smoke was coming from the vents above the HVAC. From the way the switches turn now (the fan, I leave the selection off) I can tell that there's some melt on the backside, it's really stiff now.

I blame it on myself because I knew there was a recall for the resistor on the heater blower switch and that it could cause a fire, I should've gotten it fixed.

I'm just glad that it didn't turn into a full blown dash fire. Dash fire = bad.

The moral of the story is, if you know that you haven't got the resistor replaced on your heater blower switch and there's a recall or TSB for your car, do it, it really could cause a fire.
