Even Veterans need to signal their intention at 95 mph...

I agree! In the same vein, if I'm in a "Left Turn Only" lane (for example), why do I have to signal? Isn't that redundant? All I can do is turn left...

Because, as I'm sure you've noticed, at least 40% of the time people in the left lane (even left turn only) either go straight or take a right turn!!!!

Welcome to MA, ladies and gents!!

Yes, this is true. But if I, myself, am turning left...in a left turn only lane...I feel that using a turn signal is redundant.

How's the car? How's the tire? Holding air?

the left turn signal also tells people incoming traffic that you're turning left, not just the people behind you.
it isn't always clear to the people coming at you that you're in that lane. They're behind the traffic light and can't see the lines as well since your car is hovering over the painted lines indicating which type of lane you're in.

and frankly, it's just good practice to indicate where you're going with your turn signal any time you're going left or right, even if it's obvious. It's just a good habit to have. can't say I practice this all the time, but I do understand the reasons why we should do it.

I got in the habit of using directionals a lot when I was a bit younger so that some night when I might have a couple cocktails (hic) it would be automatic. It worked great the night I signalled left and turned down Maple Street (of course, it was the wrong way, and YES, I did get stopped). Cop: You go directly home, NOW! Dougie: Yes sir, occifer.

Everybody should use their signals. It should be automatic no matter which direction you are turning.
