right b4 i blew my engine up i tried castrol syntec oil straight 30w. i was getting a ticking noise from my block. the guy that supposedly was going to work on my car suggested a thick oil. i agreed. that didnt work so i took the svt to him. he said he thought carbon was built up on the pistons. anyway 10 mins after i left his bouse i threw a rod. i have heard thatif u mix sythetic oil with regular then ur engine will lock up. is it true cause he says he used regular 10w-30 oil. mad

Not quite true. Most synthetics are completely miscible with conventional motor oils. There may be a case where there is some sort of incompatibility poblems, but I haven't heard of it.
In either case, your engine should not "lock up".

No. Shouldn't be any problem. I've done it myself on occasion in my fiancee's car.

Never happens. This is pure rubbish. Been running synthetics for 10 years, mixing etc. He may be covering one of his errors here

What's the temperature been like in West Virginia?
Straight 30W might be too thick with a cold engine
at low ambient temps.

Are you sure he put enogh oil in your engine or let alone, even put any oil in there? What was your engine temp gauge reading before the engine went south? Have you checked your waterpump lately?

I agree. It's been said that our Duratecs aren't good at distributing thicker oils as needed. As for the mixing, I know you are not supposed to go from syn to conv. Lots of weird stuff... just get a second opinion before you believe this guy.
