Ok, I am using a ghetto system. I have a Pioneer deck (DEH-P640), a Sony 1000W amp, and am running a 12" JL Audio (12w3 i think). Well I guess I am using something of every brand

The problem is, my amp is cutting out while I am listening to music. For a while it will work just fine, then it will either cut out for 5 seconds at a time, or go into caution and completely turn off (have to turn the car off and then back on to get the amp to turn back on). So, is it my wiring? My friend and I checked the Ohms, the amp can handle 4 and the sub is a dual 2 ohm, and I believe I have it set to 4 right now. I could be wrong, maybe you cant get 4 out of two 2 ohms. That make sense?

I did have it set to one ohm and that pounded, but blew the fuses Anyone help?

Thanks!

Set the amp to one ohm because two 2ohm voice coils wired in parallel make a 1ohm load. Try putting a bigger fuse in the amp but not too big or you'll toast it. Another option is to wire each voice coil independently to each channel of the amp therefore making a two ohm load on each channel and making it easier for your amp to push.

No you'll want to bridge the amp, and wire the dvc sub in series. Swapping out the amps fuses with a larger one will likely damage the amplifier, they are there for a reason.

How in the world do I change the amp to 1 ohm? I didnt think that was even possible. Or do you mean but a new amp?

If I wire the DVC to a series I still get the same problem, bridged as well.

If you wire the DVC sub in series and each coil is 2ohm than you will get 4ohm, which was what you want if i understand your explanation correctly.

If your amp is one ohm stable you'll be losing power and decibels by running it at 2 ohms. When you said you had your amp set to one ohm I thought there was switch, but what you actually mean to say is that it is running at one ohm which is probably below the amps ability. So you are blowing fuses before the outputs on the amp get fried. Anyway wire each channel independently and don't mess with running the sub in series and bridging the amp. Also I have never had problems with running bigger fuses (5 amps more)in my Orion 225hcca.
