i searched this subject and found TOADSTER did this but it wasn't clear if he straight piped it from there on out... (sucks how we have to disclaim our questions to the Search Nazi's) but anyway, if i took out the stock resonator and replaced it with an Edelbrock, or even a MagnaFlow, would it be okay to leave the stock mufflers in the back???

Fine to leave the stock mufflers. It'll be nice & quiet, but you won't get the full performance benefit of a top notch resonator until you upgrade your mufflers.

Resonator without mufflers can be loud, depends on the res/muffler installed there. I'm still learning about exhaust so some of the other CEGers should be helpful here.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

I replaced my res with a Magnaflow 14215. You'll hardly notice a difference in sound ... a bit deeper maybe.

i've read that our resonators are pretty good, and i've read they're restrictive as well... what drove you to change yours? i'm just lookin for a deeper rumble, no rasp, and a modest throaty hum... TOADSTER compared his to a z28... got me all curious with messing with the exhaust.

I wanted to get rid of the airflow restriction but not get drone. If it went a little louder ... bonus. I ended up replacing the rear mufflers too with Magnaflows at the same time btw. The back part of the exhaust is not stock though (ie. I replaced the T shape of the pipes with more of a Y).

Andy W. replaced the stock resonator w/ an Edelbrock muffler and it sounded really good. Sort of a loud stock sound.

You may also want to consider a straight through resonator which will probably get you a little more sound and not cost as much as an Edelbrock- contact Stazi.

I have the performance edelbrock res, with Magnaflow mufflers and the car couldn't sound better. Its a great setup. It has set off a couple of car alarms in parking garages with a quick rev and can turn heads once the secondaries kick in. Add that with the vaccum sound from the airbox and it sounds mean, but too bad it whimpers across the line.

definitely a more pronounced stock sound, people know my car is not just a grocery getter

over time it has developed some drone, so i may be moving to a bullet style resonator... i did leave the stock mufflers in back

so is having no resonator bad for the car? my boyfriend just took mine out and replaced it w/ regular exhaust piping. it has a lot deeper sound to it now. i like it alot, just wondering if anyone else has done this??

Plenty of people have done this. It does drone and sounds raspy when cold. It isn't going to hurt anything though.
