Hi everyone from my readings on here and my car symptoms it looks like my fuel pump is on its last legs! I changed my feul filter about oh 10k ago, and I'll probably be replacing that when I do the fuel pump itself, but I was wondering, how much does a new fuel pump cost? And also, is this something a person with little car experience like myself could do? If not, how much labor time is involved, I really don't wanted to be shafted by my friendly, local ford dealer! Thanks! frown

you are out of warrenty? My car is at the dealer right now. I think its the fuel pump too. But they had the car for 3 days now and they say they are norrowing it down lol. They dont have a clue. It's not that easy if you dont know much about cars to change the fuel pump. I believe its a inside the tank fuel pump. I never looked at it. But I would think they might have to drop the gas tank to change it. Good Luck.... And Good Luck to Bill Kolb Ford dealer in New York fixing my car. I think they are going to need it LMFAO!!!! :p :p laugh [/b]

Just had mine done. 41k on the car. ESP Premium w/ $0 and they covered it of course. All the parts involved totaled $242.(on my invoice) By the way, the pump is on top of the tank. It is accessible from the back seat. Fold the back seat down and there is a grommet that you remove, and there is the pump and sending unit. Not saying that is easy just telling where pump is and how much is was. Hope I helped a little bit. Good Luck smile

Some of the later cars do not have a 'hole' under the rear seat so its 'tank out' job & those that do do not always have a hole big enough to get the pump & sender out,as 'trapps', I did a walk thru with him over the phone to open up the small hole to get the pump and sender out without dropping the tank...if your not a 'gearhead' I think you may have to have the dealer do it...assuming the pump is on the way out...

I changed the pump on my wife's old college car (91 Cav Z24) a couple weekends ago. $50 lifetime warranty from Murrays Auto parts (free this time because it was the second time I changed it) and 3 hours of my time. I wasn't positive it was the problem (weak, but still ran) so I paid $50 for the Chevy dealer to tell me what it was. They wanted $168 for a lifetime warranty pump and $200 in labor.

Eek thanks for the tips, I doubt this is something I can do myself frown I know that if I go to the dealer and ask them for an estimate they'd go welllll we'd have to look at it and all mad If the labor is below 150 or so, I might just get that fuel pump from you buckshot. By the way isn't yours the lone SVT that crashed on camera? frown Just a side note, I made the horrific discovery today that I've gone 7k miles since my last oil change!!! I thought that I changed at 46K, but I was going through receipts and it was 42K I hope I havent done any permanent damage, it's Castrol GTX in there frown God how could I be so stupid!!! I ordered 6 quarts of AMSOIL yesterday along with one of their filters, and I will have Jiffy Lube put it in... Sucks huh?

Athlon, yes I'm the one rolling on tape and now I've added yet another moment to my collection by breaking down at Gingerman on several people's tapes! LOL Guess you've got to pay to play. Drop me an email at Buckshot77@aol.com if you're wanting to pick up that pump. It's sitting in the tank right now, just waiting to go somewhere.

FYI, fordpartsonline lists the pump at $219.58 for a 2000 contour V6. I'll definitely be a site cheaper than that.

Thanks,
Rick
