After doing a search and reading all the comments about water pump failures, I decided to have mine changed. My car has 72,000 miles. Went to Napa and got the Dura Pro pump and it looked good. Today I had my local Ford dealer install it and a new themostat (they have been doing a good job for me on other repairs). Well it is a good thing I relaced that old pump. It had the black impeller and when I examined it, it had 3 different cracks forming each about the same distance apart near the the shaft. One of the cracks was all the way down to the back of the impeller. I was on the way to failure in the very near future. I don't drive my car hard which is probably why it hadn't failed already.

LUCKY!
Mine failed during an autox event. Pushing the car....off the course.....uphill....in mid-summer heat really sucked.
