Rented "The Recruit" the other night. I recommend that one to anyone that hasn't seen it. Makes you think the whole time.

Not if you predict the outcome.

The Pianist was an amazing movie.

Gangs of New York was good , but watch it first , Pianist overshadows it. Gangs is actually more realistic and less hokey than it looks in previews.

Id definetly rent The Pianist.

Xtrainfo- Cool thing about The Pianist is unlike most movies , there was no bullsh!t sex scene or tits that had nothing to do with the storyline. Thank god. Gangs has tits that serve no point other than to look pretty , and sex scenes that dont belong.

Guys dont get me wrong , I like these things , just not while im watching an actual movie. Thats why they make Playboy.

How about:

The Great Escape, Bullitt...(the chase scene made me dizzy),
North By Northwest, Cape Fear...(the original version w/ Gregory Peck), To Kill A Mockingbird, In The Heat Of The Night, Lilies Of The Field...(not a heavyweight story, but darn funny) Ice Age...

Man, I love DVD's.

Reply to Dimitry. Well,IMHO, Pianist is a good movie, which was hard for Mr. Polansky 'cause the topic was covered so many times; however, having said that, I still consider Schindler as a better movie for many reasons.
Gangs is a good movie too, despite Leonardo, but it's like in sports, whatever older athlete would do, the age and depleted resources are evident. MS's other greatest hits, such as Taxi Driver, Good Fellas, Afterhours and some others, leave the Gangs far behind... Just my opinion...

A semi-recent movie that impressed me a bit was Frailty. Not super scary, or even super deep, but well done without compromise and definately worth a watch.

A few other movies that I liked that weren't very popular:

Kalifornia
A Simple Plan
Happiness
Ghost World
Bound
Exotica
The Ice Storm
The Sweet Hereafter

Grave of the Fireflies and Children of Heaven are both worthy as well.

I saw The Italian Job, GREAT movie! The Mini Coopers in their are sweeeeet! I guess LA made them convert the cars to all electric so they coudl run down in the subways.
You gotta see it, it's a great action.

I didn't understand what all the hype was about once I saw Punch Drunk Love. Equilibrium was great--all the actors in it are fantastic. I am going to check out The Tuxedo and The Recruit and Gangs of New York soon since I missed them in the theaters. I also heard Boondock Saints (sp?) was really good as well. I agree about The Italian Job, and I really liked The Hulk (especially the way they edited the move).
