Searching through the past topics, found this one.

http://www.contour.org/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=003358

My '95 Contour is in for service for the same thing right now.

They contacted me & said it needs a MLP switch & speed sensor.

Parts / Labor / Diag fee / Taxes = 326.13

They also want to flush the tranny for 139 bucks

OUCH !! This hurt's, as I just spent 420 for them them to replace Mass airflow sensor & OPFE sensor

And to top it off, just put new tires on the B I T C H !!! Another 400 bucks !!!

( Had 88 thousand miles on the factory Goodyears !! Is that good mileage?)

That's going to be 1200 bucks I've invested in one week !!! aaaaaakk !

B.T.W., I've been visiting this site for quite some time, great info flows back & forth. Great Forum.

For what they are saying is wrong with the transmission I'll leave it for someone who knows more than I do. But I think that it might be the problem since the transmission is electronically controlled and the switch probably has something to do with whats happening.

As for the flush, if your car has over 88k miles on it then the flush might be the best thing you can do for it, in terms of preventative maintainence.

Thanks, Yes a good flush never hurts.

One thing that upsets me, last week, I dropped it off for them to fix a ruff running engine & trans jumping in & out of gear while at speed. (70 mph)

Last week they charged $70 to check it over, now today, they wanted to charge another $70.

I quickly reminded them , uh, W.T.F. ?

They agreed to remove that charge.

Had the recall for the cooling fan switch wiring harness done. The tech showed me the harness that was pulled out.

Holy cow ! All the wires were bare near the connector & I was surprized they never shorted out !

They just called, it's finished. Today's total 391.71.

.
If anyone was wondering about my name CoolBlue87GT,

Here's why, I own an 87 Pontiac Fiero, w/only 1,700 miles !! - Yes One thousand, seven hundred.

We have our own Forum, something like this one, www.fiero.nl

I bought my Fiero Sept 1986, planned to keep it as a fair weather car, ended up 15 years later with one of the lowest mileage Blue GT's in the world.

Have taken it across the eastern US, to many car shows. It's done very well.

Daytona 2001, it won Best Stock GT, Best Stock Paint, and Best of Show !!!
Williamsburg 2001 : 1st place. Carlisle 2001 : 1st place. Daytona 2002 : Best Stock GT.....(you get the point)

This is one of the reasons why I got rid of my Contour because any repairs on this car is were very expensive. My last repair was raplacing the harness for cooling fan $300.00.

A set of hand tools and a Service CD are a great investment for anyone that wants to keep their Contour for this reason. That said, I would still take it in the butt if I had a tranny problem. This week I'm going to be replacing my front control arms; a job that the local Ford dealer quoted me $700 for. eek

The harness is a recall item. Shouldn't have cost you a cent !!

If the dealer did it, go back & demand your money back !

This has been the only problem I've had since buying it 7 years ago.

Darn good record I'd say.
