Tell me I'm crazy, but... I wanna know if my 6.5" components, rated at 50W RMS (recommended) will handle a 130W RMS signal from my 4-ch amp (bridged). Is there any danger from this or should I just "have at it?"

.RMk..

"have at it"....

I'm pushing 300 watts RMS to each ID Midbass driver...they are rated for 150 RMS. They have only "clicked" on a few times occasions from being overdriven...it was my fault as my gain structure was still being dialed in.

Remember, you speakers can handle the extra wattage as music is transient in nature...the peaks only occur for vy short periods of time i.e. fractions of a second.

Most speakers blow at high volume b/o distortion and clipping from an signal driven by a underpowered amp...in other words, more power is better than less power as you are less likely to clip the output signal and cause distortion.

Your crossovers for you components may even have fuses to prevent overdriving...some MBQs and Bostons do.

go for it...i'm running infinity kappa 5.25"... they call for 80 rms max, but i'm running them off of a us acoustics USX 4085 (if i recall correctly, it pushes about 240 watts rms when bridged to 2 channels). No problems here for the past year. just watch the gains - to be safe, don't send the amp into clipping if you're going to double the recomended RMS rating.

I'm thinking it'll be safe, but I wanted to get a few opinions before I tried to blow up my favorite speakers, and here's why...

Alpine's flagship speakers all feature the same "recommended" RMS input rating, 50W. However, the amplifier they'll be using to drive said speakers in their S500 demo car -- the new MRV-F900 -- puts out 100W RMS per channel. So all things considered, including your opinions here, I'm gonna give it a shot, but I'm suing of they blow.

Actually they use mini light bulbs to "absorb" the excessive power. So if you see light coming from your doors, turn it down .....

KNU is correct,
The heat from the excess wattage is burned off as light. The Q series MBQs have this feature...I believe it's called an "optical" fuse.
