Hi everyone, here is my problem, In my 2000 tour the defrost vent, the 3 foot long vent that goes between the dash and windshield has broken. When I bought the car one side of this vent was coming up, but the I figured that it would just pop back in place, Wrong. The pegs that go down into the bracket are broken, like 3 of them. I need to get it replaced, I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem, if this was comon on the 'tours, if I shold buy the piece at the dealier, and how hard is it to install the new piece.

This stupid this is really getting on my nerves car that vent holds the back of the dash pad down and I dont want it go get deformed becaseu it is out of place and in the sun all day.

THANKS EVERYONE,

Dan

Unfortunately, it sounds like the dreaded dash warp common to 99-00 models. There was a recall but it ended almost a year ago. The fix is (was) to rivet a big black ugly strip to the top of the dash to hold the vent and dash in place. From what I understand, though, you can't even get that anymore. If you can find a dealer to fix it, it'll be pretty expensive. I can't remember the cost... anyone else know?

Not to worry, ford is gong to take care of it for me free of charge

Thankyou though for helping me out, being you are the only one that responded to my post, to everyone else

1) Can't agree that the black strip looks ugly - IMHO it matches the black elements of dash, which otherwise don't match shite.
2) Got mine fixed as a recall in August last year.

You're welcome! Glad Ford's going to fix it for you. I've seen lots of posts here where their dealer didn't want to do anything for them.
