I'm taking my car in on Tuesday to the dealer to have my driver's seat looked at. It wobbles side-to-side a bit and it's a little disconcerting. I made the appt and got transfered to the parts department right after. The guy told me that Ford sells the seats in pieces, not as complete sets...they want $13 for the hardware (no sweat) but they want $300 for the upholstery and $100 for the pad...and that's just for the seat bottom!!!! What the...? I'm gonna try to hit the boneyard on Saturday, but daggone--what gives??

You know.. I have a similar problem on my '00, the passenger side though. The seat seems really loose, and it squeeks like a mofo... It just hasn't been warm enough yet in G.R. to play with it yet. If you figure it out, keep me posted, because mine kinda sounds like it's something rubbing "inside" the seat itself...

My broke just like that, with the squeeking. I took it out and saw that the strap suports that go from the seat to the rail had pulled over the rivet. So I driled out the rivet and replaced it with a bolt and large washer. Sturdy as heck now. As soon as you take the seat out you will see what I'm talking about.

I had the driver's seat in my '98 Contour come apart. The reinforcing bracket at the rear of the seat pan snapped. This allowed the seat to wobble from side to side. I was able to get my local dealer to replace the seat track assembly for $50. I think the dealership considered it an extension of the original car warranty.

That actually sounds like a really good idea. I did pull the seat up this weekend and looked and I know exactly what rivets you're talking about. Think I'll be cancelling my very expensive trip to the dealer tomorrow. Thanks!! Steve

I think those rivets are garbage from the get go. Ford should have used screws instead of those crappy rivets. Jut use a cold chisel to remove the rivets and drill with a #7 tap drill for 1/4-20 tap. Get some allen wrench style button head screws from the hardware store.
