my car is a 1995 Mystique with approx 200,000 kms on it. Its a 2.5 V6, manual shift, during the last month or so the car has been hesitating when it has sat overnight or for a period of time. The car idles very smoothly around 750rpms, but when I push the gas, around 2000-2200 rpms it feels as if it is missing. When the car is put into gear and driven at low speed it "jerks" and "jumps" around the 2000 rpm range and feels very unresponsive. However after the car gets to operating temperature it appears to run fine (no hesitation/ "jerkyness") I am the second owner and my father replaced the original wires as one was grounding out (Yes I know I should have done the wires a long time ago). He suggested my plugs didn't need replacing and he "cleaned" and re-gapped them. My question is, could my hesitation when cold be related to the fact that the car is still running original plugs? (it smooths out after it warms up)Or could it be emmission related/fuel related. I have read about the pre-cats falling to pieces, but I had the re-call done in '99. Any help would be suggested, please don't yell at me for not replacing the plugs/wires earlier, my dad is my mechanic and he claimed they never needed doing. Time to find a new mechanic...
