To all CEG'ers

The airbag idiot light just started flashing at me yesterday.

4 Flashes, short pause, 5 Flashes, long pause. Pattern repeats. In Ford speak, that's probably a code 45.

A search in the archives says that's LH crash sensor not mounted properly. HOWEVER, my car already had the recall done re. the airbag sensor wiring/harness. Also, it's got a fresh Motorcraft battery. I did a check on the alternator, it's OK.

Can somebody tell me what to look for when trying to find the LH crash sensor.

Anything else I need to check while down there???

IIRC, somebody said to check/clean the wiring or a specific connector between the battery and radiator?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

Power down the system and find the connector the sensor plugs into. Clean it real good with electronic parts cleaner and reassemble. Wouldn't hurt to clean the ground to the radiator frame too. If this doesn't fix it you will need the process from the manual. Circuit must be no more than 2 ohms. To power down just disconnect the battery and leave it for 10 minutes to be sure the back up power is gone.

Is there a recall for this airbag problem? Mine has begun to flash 4-5 also!

Disconnect the battery before doing and SRS work. The system will still hold power for up to 20 minutes after the battery is disconnected, according to my Chiltons.

We don't need anyone accidentally setting off their airbags! eek
